last night, sitting up on the roof with P. figuring some things out. The question is - what fictional or actual person do you admire and model yourself after? (if there is one, that is.)
I'd have to say its Anais Nin, the brilliant female writer who wrote sublime diaries (now published), as well as a few novels, and erotic stories in compliations such as "Delta of Venus" and "Little Birds." She was very free-spirited, yet caring - her life wasn't easy, but it was fabulous. She was poor, but had many friends and lovers. She was unconventional, and made her own way through life. To me, she is an example of a true and beautiful reconciliation between being a woman and being an artist in a patriarchal society.
Another is - Jill Scott, the neo-soul singer/poet, who is so full of love and life, whose songs are emotive and strong - who seeks the Truth and sings the Truth.
